The Houstonian Club Aquatics department is excited to introduce a new Water Safe program exclusively for Members with grandchildren. This 8-week program offers 24 allotted swim lesson visits, and is designed to teach non-swimmers ages 2–6 essential survival skills such as floating and treading water, to help them become water-safe. These classes will be available from September to March and will combine elements of the Pre-School and Levels 1 and 2 Aquatics programs that are available to all young Members.
According to the American Red Cross, thousands of people die from unintentional drownings each year, and it is the leading cause of death for children ages 1–4. Recognizing this, the Houstonian Aquatics team created the Water Safe program, showing their commitment to keeping the grandchildren of our Members safe in addition to our young Members who receive these services in their lessons. Grandparents can now give themselves and their families peace of mind knowing their grandchild is water-safe, which is the first step toward developing skills that will support a lifetime of enjoyment in the water for their families. Once a child successfully completes the program and can swim independently, they will graduate!
We are happy to announce that this program will launch in January of 2025. To participate, grandparents must book a private swim lesson at the normal swim lesson rate with a Houstonian Swim instructor. The grandparent (Member) must be present on the pool deck at all times during swim lessons. The children enrolled in the program and accompanied by their grandparent may only use the pool, locker room, The Kitchen, and The Shop while visiting the Club.
