Tips from the Top

Member Tips for a Great Experience at The Houstonian Club

Our leadership team at the Club wants to ensure that all Members, guests, and clients have the best possible experience when visiting The Houstonian each day. Here are the Top 3 Tips from our Managers in each area of the Club to ensure your visits to the Club go smoothly and provide the service experience you are seeking.

Club Security

For the safety of all our members, guests and clients, please follow the posted signage when driving on the roadways and within the club garages.
  • The speed limit is 10 MPH on roadways and 5 MPH inside the garages.
  • Please stop at all STOP signs and crosswalks, always yielding to those utilizing the walking/running paths.
  • Never practice unsafe or aggressive driving on The Houstonian campus. Doing so may result in suspension or termination of your membership.

Welcome Desk

When checking in at the Welcome Desk, please scan the correct key tag for the individual(s) entering the club.
  • Avoid standing at the first (ADA) turnstile and giving your Member # rather than scanning your key tag or utilizing your HID Mobile app. Photos should be current for accurate identification of Members.
  • For the security of our Club, please properly register ALL guests (of all ages) with the Welcome Desk team prior to entering the Club. Guests may not be admitted through any other entrance, and failure to check your guest in properly may result in the suspension of your membership.  A guest providing a false name can result in expulsion from guest privileges.
  • Parents, please do not allow your children to run in front of other Members or crawl under the turnstiles when entering the Club.

Group Exercise Classes
  • Please refrain from looking at cell phones during class. Exit the studio to an appropriate space if phone usage is necessary.
  • Line up equipment (as indicated on signage posted in the studios) behind the markers in Move and Breathe to ensure all Members have ample space to exercise.
  • Always follow the instructor’s routine. Modifications are encouraged, but doing different exercises completely is distracting and disrespectful to the instructor and fellow attendees.

Fitness Center

Cell Phones
  • Please refrain from talking on your phone while using equipment or pacing within the fitness center. Phone calls should be taken in designated areas near the benches by the elevator and the atrium staircase.
  • Do not occupy strength equipment while using your phone. To signal to others that the equipment is available for shared use, we recommend standing next to the machine during rest periods.
  • Please use headphones when listening to music or podcasts—playing audio through your phone’s speaker is not permitted.

Workout Spaces
  • The track is designated for linear exercises only, including walking, jogging, walking lunges, farmer’s carries, and banded exercises. Lifting weights while standing on the track is not permitted.
  • The Next Level area is designed for functional movement. The wooden wall at the back of the room serves as a slam wall for medicine ball exercises—please keep this space clear, as it is the only designated area for this purpose.
  • Mat work and stretching should be performed in the designated stretching area within the main fitness space or along the perimeter of the Next Level area.

Equipment
  • Please be mindful of others by not monopolizing equipment or utilizing multiple machines while circuit training.
  • If another member is resting on equipment you wish to use, feel free to politely ask if you can work in.
  • If you are asked to share equipment, an appropriate response would be:
    - "I have one more set to complete, and then it’s all yours.”
    - "Absolutely! Let’s work in together.”

Youth Department
  • Please do not bring your children to the Club if they are ill. Children must be symptom-free for 24 hours prior to visiting the Club. (If the child did not go to school due to illness, they should not be brought to the Bungalow or the Houstonian Hideout.)
  • Please call first (prior to coming to the Club) to check the status of a child who has been placed on a waitlist on the weekend. Arriving at the Club with your child does not change the status if they are still on the waitlist.
  • Please do not pack snacks or food that may contain nuts, tree nuts, or peanut butter. (We are a nut-free facility to safeguard against allergies.)

Racquet Sports
  • Please do not remove tennis balls from behind the curtains during lessons, or pickleballs from events when they are provided, and take them off campus. They are the property of The Houstonian Club and should remain onsite.
  • Please do not use club towels to dry outdoor courts. The Racquets and Engineering staff will assist with drying courts using professional equipment designed for this purpose.
  • For Open Play Pickleball: Remember to switch in and out and share the court space by allowing other Members who are waiting to join in.

Aquatics
  • Adhere to all posted pool rules, including swimwear guidelines, to maintain a safe and appropriate family environment.
  • Please dispose of used towels in the provided receptacles and discard trash in designated bins.
  • During periods of high pool usage, please share lap lanes. Offering to share a lane promotes a friendly and collaborative atmosphere.

Locker Rooms
  • Please show respect for fellow members in these close quarters by placing towels and trash in designated bins and leaving sink and dressing areas tidy.  All amenities are intended for use and consumption while enjoying the Club.
  • Please do not engage in loud phone conversations or conversations on speaker phone in areas where other Members are present and never utilize FaceTime or any video or photo application within the locker room spaces.
  • Please adhere to all posted signage regarding usage of the dry sauna, steam room, whirlpool, and cold plunge spaces.

The Shop
  • To charge to a membership account, you must be listed on that account.
  • Please make sure your signature is legible when signing.
  • Our return policy is 14 days with a receipt and tags attached. Swimwear, intimates and sale items are all FINAL sale.

The Kitchen
  • Please check in at the host stand before being seated.
  • Swimsuit cover-ups and shoes must be worn at all times in The Kitchen and on the decks.
  • Please don't feed the squirrels when dining on the outdoor decks.

Common Area Spaces
  • Please be respectful to staff and fellow Members in all areas of the Club.
  • Please walk attentively through the corridors (no running or walking while texting/ looking at your phone) to ensure a safe experience for everyone moving through these spaces.
  • Please bring any concerns within the Club to the attention of our staff or a manager in the immediate area when this occurs. We will do our best to address your concerns with urgency to ensure a satisfying outcome.

We appreciate your membership very much, and following the guidelines listed here will ensure that all Members, guests and clients have the best possible experience while enjoying our wonderful Club. Above all, and in accordance with the Houstonian Club Code of Conduct, please always treat everyone with respect and dignity.

Wishing you all health and wellness from the Houstonian Club Leadership Team.
