School Readiness

It’s that time of year again! As August gets closer, so does the school year. For parents, this can be your dream come true or a true nightmare.

School can be a scary time for children, especially young children who thrive on schedules. Here are a few steps parents can follow to help your child have a smooth transition into the school year.

Start practicing your schedule before you need it to run efficiently. You can start this a month before school starts, or a week. This really depends on your child, some children adapt faster than others.

Talk about the upcoming change. Children need the time to process what they are going to have to do every day and they will have questions about it. Take some time every day leading up to the start of school to make sure they are comfortable and understand what will be happening. This is the perfect time to get them excited about starting school! Maybe the school has some afterschool activities that your child would be interested in and they can get excited about.

Attend Meet the Teacher with your children. It is not only nice for you to meet your children’s teachers but it will make the first day of school less scary if your children know who they will be with all day.
The school year is just around the corner and we hope everyone is prepared! Please keep in mind that the Youth Department will have different hours during the school year. The hours are listed below:
