Muscle Activation Technique

Muscle Activation Technique - what it is and how it can help you

Muscle Activation Technique (M.A.T.) is a hands-on, manual muscular therapy that allows the practitioner to assess and correct muscle imbalances that contribute to pain and loss of motion. Due to diet, stress, overload, repetitive patterns, and injury, our bodies compensate and create muscle imbalances, which can lead to pain in the joints and muscles.

The difference between M.A.T. and other modalities is that M.A.T. identifies the weakened and imbalanced areas of the body. Tightness is secondary to weakness, therefore, tightness is the symptom. Continuing to treat the symptom may exacerbate the discomfort. Muscle Activation Technique addresses the reason for the tightness so that when the body becomes more stable, the tightness will subside.

Part of the job of the M.A.T. Specialist is to test and track down muscles that are not contributing as well as others in the body. The next step is to stimulate them and provide reinforcement exercises to help bring the body back into muscular balance. By addressing the weakened muscles, this helps the body perform more efficiently and ultimately, feel better. Through M.A.T., pain is reduced and the body actually feels stronger and more youthful. Clients have come in with issues that they have had for years and within a few sessions those issues are resolved and they can go back to doing the activities they love.

Some benefits of M.A.T. are an immediate increase of strength, reduction of pain, increased flexibility and joint stability.
