Pickleball Update

We wanted to update our pickleball players on our efforts to keep up with the demand at the Club. Pickleball has been growing very quickly at The Houstonian and across the country in the past year. We have added eight lined outdoor courts and two lined indoor courts to keep up with the demand. Court Nine is tentatively planned for resurfacing in March 2022 depending on the weather. The Club will repaint four lined courts on court nine as recommended by the pickleball community.

The Club has ordered four new rolling nets to replace the stationary nets. Two of the rolling nets will be the elite heavy-duty pickleball nets that you may have seen in local tournaments. The other two rolling nets are the same as we currently have. Rolling nets will allow us to accommodate more players with the recent increase in demand. The stationary nets and the rolling nets have had four net replacements over the last 18 months. With the demand and the slow supply chain issues, we will have the nets replaced as soon as possible.

In the last 18 months, we have ordered 400 pickleballs for Member use. We ask that all pickleballs be returned for other Members to enjoy.

The Club is also investigating the possibility of dedicated pickleball courts in the future. We are asking for everyone’s patience as we focus on the completion of our current renovation and campus projects which are instrumental in determining the location of possible future courts once plans are reviewed and approved.

We will also continue to host pickleball-specific mixers as well as mixers encompassing all of our racquet sports. We will continue hosting tournaments, clinics and private lessons with Bobbie. Please join the Houstonian Club Racquet Sports Facebook group and check the Houstonian app under ‘Events’ to stay in the loop on all upcoming events.

Please note court etiquette:
  • Please do not go over your time if someone is waiting on the court
  • When booking a pickleball court please specify if you want one side or both sides
  • Crossing through another Member’s court disrupts play
  • Make sure to check-in at the Racquet Sports Office to confirm your designated court
  • Keep noise level down to prevent interfering in other Member’s play
  • Share the benches between the outdoor courts
  • Be respectful to your fellow Members
  • Please return nets to the side of the courts and return the balls to the Racquet Sports Office

Once again, we appreciate everyone’s patience while we work through the increase in demand for the courts.

Thank You,
Mike May
Director of Racquet Sports
