The first thought that may come to your mind when you hear "swim team” is competition. Yes, that is a proper assumption but there are many other unexpected benefits. Some of those benefits include self-motivation, teamwork, mental and physical health, an increase in water safety, better sleep and many more. The physical benefits of a swim team are phenomenal, it is something that can be seen and felt. Swim team allows you to build your lungs, build strong muscles and it’s a sport that is easy on the joints. 

The biggest mental benefit of a swim team is what it teaches you about opposition and adversity. Some races won’t be your best race but, that doesn’t mean giving up or quitting. The way in which you respond is key, you still have to find a way to execute. It runs parallel with life because not all days are good days, but we still have to make the choice of how we can maximize the time given to attain success. 

By joining a swim team here at The Houstonian Club, you will build character, improve health, develop competitive drive, and meet some great teammates. The swim team environment has created that safe space where we can be competitive and still have fun. I truly believe that iron sharpens iron, and we execute just that here at The Houstonian. Physically, you will be challenged and held accountable by your teammates to stay consistent. The best thing about The Houstonian swim team is the amount of fun we have with each other. Even during days that are very cold or very hot, we still manage to crack a smile and have a great start to the day.

The Houstonian Club offers several swim team programs for both kids and adults:

BlueFins Swim Team (ages 5 to 14) runs from May through June and will include swim meets at The Houstonian Club and various country clubs in Houston. Sign up for BlueFins through CampMinder here.

AquaTech Youth will run from July through March and will provide consistent conditioning and technique improvement.

SwimFit (for adults) is a complimentary fitness swim and swim team program that offers swim training seven days a week. If you like to compete in swimming or triathlons, you will have a great group to go to competitions with.
